picked up a complete but unassembled 22re off albuquerque craigslist last night. bored and honed block, turned crank, new bearings all around, valve job and complete gasket set $400. the PO was moving and gave me a killer deal.
just have to put it together...
looks like the 86 4runner (aka Night Moves) will ride again. So I can do more brilliant moves like this.

Look real close at the inside of the front timing cover. The biggest weak link with that motor is a sloppy timing chain bouncing around-and chewing a hole in the cover. It ends up eatting into a water passage-putting water in your oil. Often mis-diagnosed as a bad head gasket.

luckily this is a brand new cover.
i'll definitely be using metal timing chain guides.
